Original tune played on a rescued 6 string Chris Adjustomatic parlor guitar and a plugged-in 4 string cbg. This is based on a true story. I did sit next to a girl named Eve on a flight and she certainly had blue eyes and was coming from a job interview. She may or may not have killed someone. She never said...

Can't go wrong with the Shure, I'd get one if I wasn't so cheap...Have fun!

Thanks, Turtlehead. Lots of helpful advice there. I think I will stick to one mic and play with placement as advised. I only have a phone and tablet and no computer so couldn't use the software. I'm one of the truly mobile generation and find laptops and computers more than I need right now. Thanks again for the advice and I now know about the one mic thing. For the CBGs I have an amp with a mic input with dedicated mic trim feature and an instrument in with separate volume control so those won't be an issue. Might take the parlour guitar to a luthier and get a pickup permanently installed at some point but will work out mic placement once I get a mic. I'm thinking about the Shure 58 as I've heard good things about them. Not the cheapest on the market but with microphones I guess you get the quality you pay for!

Nice Derek.  You've got a magic touch when it comes to songwriting and the multi-track adds a ton to your sound.

Hey Bear, to your question I'd say one mic to start with and experiment with the placement like Derek says. Just sing closer to the mic if your guitar is loud!  With CBG's it's the other way 'round, so I almost always record them plugged in to something.

If you want to take it a little further, consider some kind of audio interface for your computer where you can record your guitar and the microphone separately and mix them to your liking.  A quick google turned up this bundle:

https://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-Studio-Interface-Recordin...

$200 US and you get a mic, headphones, 2 input interface (mic and guitar), a version of Pro Tools and a bunch of other software goodies - enough to make your head spin.  Not sure that's exactly what you're looking for and there's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the software, but something like this seems like a pretty good deal...

Hi Bear, good questions but I am no mic expert as my recording set-up is pretty basic and simple like my mind! :)

Thanks to you for explaining too. I'll consider a decent mic as my next purchase then. I WAS thinking of two mics, one a tie clip mic and one for the guitar but now you've explained it I'm thinking different. Would putting,or having someone professional put, a piezo and preamp in the guitar work just as well and me have a tie clip mic work too? Maybe better or definitely worse? What about these plug looking things for the soundhole and a pickup. Are they more for electric pickups or piezo? So many questions with standard guitars and so little knowledge lol. You can pm me if you prefer. Might help others too though? Thanks again my good friend!

Thanks Bear! Always appreciate your kind comments. Mine has a thick plywood top and is louder than it should be but quieter on the bass E than my larger acoustics. I use extra light strings since this guitar has no truss or reinforcement in the neck. Mic placement is important. I have a usb mic placed about 2 feet away to pick up my vocals and the guitar, I adjust the height midway to get the right balance. Then try to sing more into the mic for certain parts. I wouldn't deaden the git, just scream over it ;)  So I play and sing simultaneously as in the video, just try to balance the mic. I did over-dub the electric cbg parts and added reverb to round out the over-all sound. THX again!

The ever trusty Mr Rose. Can always count on you for an instant classic. I hugely enjoyed listening. How do you get your parlour to play so we can hear you singing over it? I've got a parlour guitar from the 60s or 70s and it is so LOUD! Can they be padded out with wadding or something? How much wadding is the right amount and would it go under the bridge or in the soundhole area? How does yours stay so sweet or is it a product of recording separately? Seemed totally synced up so it's got me wondering. If you don't mind me asking that is.

Hey Andries, you got me grinning ear to ear right now! Thanks! I did take the audio from the video and added some reverb and then played along with one of my cbg's. I would like to do a cd but I need some real equipment...  Hope you are on the mend my friend. THX!
