rods are  better   in   guitars,   and   i'd   say  better  in   stompers  too   im   my opinion .  they  are a step  up  from piezo discs      in all  accounts  .. plus     tone controls  dont respond well  to piezo  discs,      if at all .

but rods  are  trickeier  in a stomp,  as  you  gotta   kindof  have them    under  pressure .

there  is a  bottom  and the   rod  is mounted to  the  bottom   ,  caked  in  hot  glue,  along with the braided  cord  that  is also   sound sensitive .    there  is a  piece  of wood   glued to  the top   lightly  touching the  rod   ..  so   when   ya stomp  on  it  it  creates  presure .

Nice! Does the rod sound better? Where/how is it mounted in there? Also do you put a bottom on it?

I don't like the sound of the license plate on mine. A hobo is someone who rode freight trains by hopping into empty boxcars once the train ha been inspected and started moving. They would jump off before the train stopped to keep from gettin caught. This was durin the Great Depression of the 1930's. It's also synonymous with a homeless person. So a hobo tambourine would just be an improvised version using nails and bottle caps

I tried a tambourine on my hi hat stand but it just didn't work. Excuse my transatlantic ignorance, but what's a hobo tambourine?

I wanted to make the British equivalent of a Mississippii stomp box, but all our modern vehicle number plates are plastic, long and thin not the same shape as I believe yours are. I'll see if our local garage has any old ones lying around, along with any old style hub caps to make a hub cap guitar.

I've got plans for a hobo tambourine to replace the high-hat. Maybe even some bottle cap tap shoes for those shuffle rhythms

might  wanna  try  some beer  caps  in a row on  a  nail  .

Just tried the hot glue. Nobody tOld me that stuff was hot!! Lol. Feedback was a lot better-I still need to scrap the license plate for some mdf- I just don't like the tinny tap tap sound it makes. I want a toof-rattlin' thump!

I'll give that a go. Also, it has no bottom. Anybody think it would benefit much from a bottom?

i   suggest  you    blob   a  layer  of  hot glue    down  squish the  piezo onto  that and cover with another   bed  of  hot glue  .

works great  for  killing the   unwanted   squeels and fback  ;-)
