Ease of playing a recognisable tune for a non musical person.

Hi my name is Jeff, I am also from Australia. Western Sydney NSW.

I am a carpenter and have been building CBG's for about 18months. I have built about 10 so far, given 7 away to family as gifts. I mostly play my 3 string but I have built some 4 strings too as these seem to suite those with guitar knowledge. See above the CBG's I have kept for me, the 4 string is missing the bridge at the moment as I gave that to my nephew for a CBG I made him earlier in my CBG making and had improved my technique since that time. The CBG is the first instrument that I have learnt/ learning to play, and so far I still build better than I play but I am getting better, and my understanding of music is also getting better.

I have transposed a tab for "A Fistful of Dollars" for Gdg tuning if anybody is interested. I am trying to make a video of me playing it but so far I keep stuffing it up, but its a fun tune to play.

CBG's have sparked an interest in guitars generally for me and I have just made a travel guitar from an old acoustic guitar. Below is a video of how I made it.

That's probably enough about me and the video will tell you exactly who I am.

Bye for now,

Jeff

Well Jeff, I just retired at the end of December. For the Last 35 years I have been  doing custom Kitchens. And for the last 25 of those years I have been the set designer and builder for a local NBC affiliate. Before all of that I built homes and a lot of room additions. I really love the set designing and building, I don't consider it work I am in the process of doing a complete set remodel now, that is why I will have some wiggle wood left over, more curved desks and walls. If you want it don't worry about it, I'll send it. It rolls up into a small cylinder and only weighs 1 or 2 pounds. Always wanted to visit Austraila, this is the closest I've gotten.        Allen

Hi Jeff, I will be ordering some wiggle wood for an upcoming job in the next month or two. I will have some Left over pieces, enough to build a couple guitar,I would be more then happy to send them to you, Think about it and let me know . What kind of carpentry work do you do?        Allen

Hi Jeff,    To build the body I used 1/8" bendable Birch {wiggle wood} plywood for the sides, and the top and bottom are made from the back side of a piece of   1/4" Luan plywood underlayment. When I saw this piece, all I could see is the guitar body in it. By the way, I"m a carpenter also.I copied the shape from Taylors T5 semi hollow body. I cut the top and bottom together, cut the wiggle wood to 1 1/2" and dry fit the sides. Even though the wiggle wood is very flexible, I still had to use a heat gun to bend the tight horn radius. Through the center of the body is a 3 1/2" solid piece of pine that goes from the neck to the tail piece, and it is tappered like a hour glass to shave off some weight. I also notched it out for the pickup, which I'm going to install after I finish this letter. I made a small access panel on the back for  installation of the volume control and the jack. However the pickup is an undermount and I'm not sure if I can get it in,going to be interesting, There is a lot to consider when building a CBD This is my 5th build.  I have made a lot of mistakes along the way, and learned a lot also. To build the body cost me $6.00 Let me know if you build one.  Best to you Allen
