btw...the bridge is glued and screw to box, the box is glued shut and the neck is glued to the inside of the lid of the box.

Hi John, I came across something quite by accident a few weeks ago, I thought about you and getting the best sound from a box/bridge placement.

I just built another cigar box guitar, made it a 4 string, anyway I was appearently so concerned with the neck and scale length measurement that I kind of built it in reverse, kind of from the tuners on upward. Anyway, when it came time to look at bridge placement on the box, finding the center from nut to bridge based on the 12th fret slot, I had to place the bridge where it numerically figured out to be placed, which on the boxes 10-3/8" length put the saddle at 4-3/8" from the end of the box so that the 12th frets location is correct. It has two sound holes, it's a 24-1/2" scale, 21 frets and its tone is high compared to anything I have ever heard, also to get a good tone when strumming I have to use pick at edge of box, (by neck), or its very tinny sounding. I have changed strings twice and went back to standard ADg + ? ( i think G or A), don't remember, I think it should be an F# when in tune, anyway I now tend to think that bridge placement at a 1/4 to 1/2 the length of the box from end is about where it needs to be to give best tone unless your looking for a specific higher pitch tone. From now on I will determine where my bridge should be placed on box and then worry about scale lengths/string and overall neck lengths then make my adjustments from there.

Hi John, thanks for checking in... things are well, i've just been taking a break.  I still have a workbench full of unfinished projects that i'm sure i'll find the motivation to work on sooner or later.  This summer i put my efforts in other places, like throwing a 3-day music festival for my wife's 40th birthday.  Sooo fun, it was awesome.  Anyway, congrats on your new website... i checked it out and it looks real nice.  Best wishes & happy building, -scott

It's certainly been useful and friendly in my first few hours, I'm based in Plaistow but get around a lot of areas of London playing and watching gigs, so hopefully get to meet some of the people here in person at some point.
