Do you have any Macanudo Portofino Café boxes? I'll buy one or two from you if you have them.

Thanks for the update on the clear poly strings. Can you use normal guitar tuners for the black poly strings? Would they work halfway decent with a pick because that is how I play the bass (It worked for Paul McCartney!)?

By the way, I discovered a guitar maker (http://claybornguitars.com/Sales.html) who is making a 25.5" Scale Length electric bass using the normal bass strings and normal tuning. I emailed him and he suggested a test: capo 5 on a normal bass and a retune to normal bass tuning. I tried a capo 2 test on my 30" Beatle bass with a retune to standard EADG bass tuning and to my delight it worked fine with an effective scale length of 27". I am planning on that 27" scale length for an upcoming build acoustic bass build. He cuts the ball end off normal bass strings and puts a collar on them to get the length right.

Just curious if you have tried any shorter scale lengths with normal bass strings and standard tuning?

When I checked out this site for the first time the other night and saw you were here, I was encouraged and decided to join. I think this new format is promising.

I am curious as to if you are still experimenting with the clear poly strings for basses and if there are any sources of inexpensive ones. I'm getting ready to try another bass and would like a shorter scale.

Thanks for the great job of moderating the Cigar Box Builders group and providing a creative alternative for those of use who aren't as flamboyant. You have kept the momentum. I hope this site will provide a place for everyone as well as some space to manuever.

Hi Sam
thanks for the reply

It's dry with a little sunshine between the black clouds - but cool at about 6
no snow as yet
we just dont seem to get snow like we used to when i was a kid
in 1977 when we moved out here into the sticks we had 7 foot snow drifts up against the house it was a real buzz as a kid - but as you get older the snow looks nice but it's a pain in the ass the problems it causes - i must be getting old (grumpy old man )
You should never start a english man off talking about the weather - it's what we do best !! lol !!
it would be cool to have a photo of the reso on the calender - seems a bit cheeky though having a photo put on and not buying a calender - i may have to see if i can still order one.

BTW that short scale Bass is looking "SWEET" Great job in so little time

cheers mate
