Roger, you are welcome. I am sorry, but you are asking the wrong person. I am like you want to learn how to play the CBG and the slide. Have you watched Kennie Lee Burgess's videos? He is a great teacher. I play guitars, but I can't seem to pick up the playing the CBGs; I may not be spending enough time on it. Yes, Bemusic made a video to show me how to slide. Watch Shane's videos on how to play CBGs. You are bound to pick up the playing; I know you can.

That was the first I had done with a dowel and it was so quick and simple I kept thinking I was missing something or doing something wrong.

I just got a crapload of old Gibson pickups in a trade, I cant wait to put em in a few builds...

I'll check those others out too tho...

Hi Roger
Thanks for the info mate , thats about the only thing i aint tried (hot Glue) tried encasing them in Silicone , Cork , Rubber , Wood nothing seemed to tone them down just very harsh sounding - i think the Piezos were just rubbish i'll try some others some time

Hey Roger! No, oddly the brass gives it this weird tremolo effect. I was scratching my head but it sounds cool. Happy accident I guess.

Ok I know nothing about piezos cand you show a diagram how you did it. I think they are the cheapest way to go.
Thanks Roger

hey, about the double peizo pickup - YES, it makes a huge difference!

for instance, through my 15 watt amp, one quarter of full volume is all thats needed for plenty of sound.

when we were building our first cigar box bass, a single pickup would produce almost no sound until the amp was up more than half way. with the SECOND pickup added, it became loud enough to play at or below the quarter volume mark, with VERY clear output!!

I use a new cigar box called a "Double Press" it has a-lot of wood in it as dividers for individual cigars. Buy this box, it will almost always be more wood for your money. It has two lids and two sets of partitions. I use the partition as framework just cut and glue careful not to expand the tin too much in the process or the lid will not fit back correctly.( I almost learned this the hard way).
The neck goes all the way through so you dont have to worry about bridge support becuase it is right against the tin which is against the neck inside.

I am using a 25 watt webber sig 10. but the speaker wattage isnt that improtant as long as its bigger than the amp.

Theres a couple of cheap and discounted First Act electric guitars at some clearance store in town. They have a nice tailpiece, bridge, and pickup. Not to mention the tuners. All for $40 each. When I get my Christmas bonus you better believe Im grabbing those.

I've tried raising the edge like that before with a diddley bow and wasnt pleased with the sound. I plan on doing another one like this. I might play around with it then.

Acoustically, it kinda sounds like a dulcimer, but plugged in its just a rocking guitar. Next time I will do something to keep the strings from digging into the wood.

Feel free to use that design. I refuse to think Im the first to come up with that. :)

Having the piezo in the separate case really cuts down on the extra noise they tend to pick up. Just be sure to use at least 3 screw for the neck. Right now it only has two and it tends to slip to one side. Other than that, Im more than happy with the sound. What started as a fun experiment has kinda turned into a very solid design.

FRET markers...LOL Nosey is OK:-)...I think Don answered the fret mark question, and I am one of those roll with the punches, playing the notes where I find them....I am blessed with an ear for pitch, so it is much like a violin or fretless bass, once you are acquainted this where you need to be on the strings.my daddy mojo has simple drawn magicmarker frets.Lenny might be embedding with wire now, I don't know.....In playing my steel my hand is now going to the "needed" notes automatically in different places all over the neck,...which is amazing, to me.

Roger, thanks so much for your kind words....I played banjo a year, then hopped on over to lap steel, so I've never learned to play fingerstyle. I was influenced greatly by the europeans and ry cooder and you will note, sometimes I wear pics, sometime not! I SO relate to Minnie Pearl,...think i might be a throwback!! for more of that, you might check a few of my youtube posts for such originials as "my little red canoe" and "housework blues" (cinderellalifestyle is my channel name)....love a good hat, and love music. Again--sincere thanks for your lovely comment!
Sincerely, Laurie
