Thanks Diane! The woodburning technique was a little bit of all the styles you mentioned. I checked out some of your stuff and all I can say is WOW! Thanks for looking!
Diane, thanks for the comments about the fiddle! I got the idea from Dennis Waring's book on 'making folk instruments'...he has the simple plans (so-so on detail and measurements) in his book...I mess around with it from time to time but I know nothing on how to play the violin....I'm a physic teacher who love's making instruments (and I have my students build them as well for projects)...I probably love the building more than the playing....the problem with me playing the fiddle is that for some reason all the cats in the neighborhood come over to my house and start meowing profusely...:) Best wishes....
Hey Diane, this is Steve (Roots) I was curious about yur photo #2 dulci design. I was wundering how it sounded and do yu like how it came out. I've made a few on top of the box and they were not very loud. Do you glue it down, channel under neath etc. Just curious for info. Thanks Steve
Hi Diane, Teaching the young to build musical instruments has been one of the most rewarding things I have accomplished in my lifetime. you will find it to be the same for you too. when that young person completes there first instrument there heart is filled with magic and joy. They have been so far for me I use the pointy side for the strings to rest on but I do sand that pointed edge down quite a bit til it is round on the top if you don't the strings will cut into it if you have the same type as I do.
I also glue a small strip on the bottom to help it stay up right like a little foot.
Oh, wow, that is a coincidence. I can't wait to see your daughters uke!
Hey, question about the toothpick frets...
How do you sand all the frets down evenly & to exactly the same height?
Hi Diane,
Another lady builder...yeah! (How many ladies are there on CigarBox Nation i wonder?...you have any idea? Your the second one i've met so far i believe.) "Mysterio"...that one looks really pretty. Oh, And i love the fork used at the butt of one of your guitars for a string uh, watchamacallit....very cool!
Hey, since you are so limited in space, what about making a ukulele? They're very tiny and are so lovely to play. Just a thought.
Take care & Have Fun Miss Diane.
Greetings,
Shelley.
