Hey Robert. I am from Ga. I grew up in Decatur but was born and call Barnesvill near Macon home. Thats wherre my folks are now. Yeah I got the bug! I am always looking for stuff to put on a guitar. I prefer to make diddley bows though. They are easier to play. I can get more of a tune out of one. I have made some 3 stringers though. I am looking at some of your builds. Pretty cool stuff.I havnt put any frets on acbg yet. Did you enter the dumpster diver guitar contest? I built one and that was a real blast. I found 99% of it in one dumpster behind a mexican resturant. Not as nasty as it sounds. Waycross huh? South Ga. where it gets pretty warm. I use to travel a lot in the summers as a kid with my dad to south Ga. Lots of good memories of that. I am in Colorado now. No more humidity or the masses of people of Atl. I miss the culture though. I and the chillins get back atleast once a year. I love Ga. Man I bet you didnt expect my life story. Keep on buildin. Later Max P.S. No one really calls me Ga. Boy.

Dunno if you saw this. It's how I did it, but I am sure there are a hundred ways to go at it.

I don't really like cutting tins, those damn shards go everywhere and are sharp as hell. You have to wear really good goggles and then vaccuum up everything when done. I used a dremel cuttting wheel (the thin one works best for me.) I taped off the area, drew the lines and started cutting. Since the tins are flimsy, I did neck-thru. When the weather breaks, go for it!

Thanks for the nice comment. I'll put up a note when I get a sound file up, but It will just be noodling since I never had a dulcimer I don't know how to play one of those yet either... I have a lot to learn the winter.

Hey Robert J., Thanks so much for the happy birthday wishes. My day was GREAT and full of blessings. A friend once aptly quoted, "if you don't feel you're blessed, feel your pulse"...lol.

hey brother thanks fer the cool comments robert j on that omar build those sound holes are candle holders from a store on e-bay called wiseacresart. hope ya find them. they are a good deal cause you get 100 pieces fer about 7 bucks plus shipping. they are 29/32 of an inch. i use a 13/16ths bit then file just a little and they fit tight so they don,t have to be glued in.

Hey Robert, thank you for the nice welcome. Yes, we are neighbors. Yes, I have been to Waycross. A week ago I drove through Waycross to St Simons. We like to stop at the Dollar Store Marketplace. They are going to put one here in some empty stores. I hope so.
No, I haven't tried yet to build one, but I have bought a bunch of cigar boxes, and a few other supplies I might need. When my husband saw all the cigar boxes, he said you sure have a lot of boxes. I told him I got a good deal on them. He doesn't know that some more are due to arrive this week. I kinda went over board bidding on ebay. Now, I have a better place to buy them, they are cheap and shipping doesn't eat you up. It is a retail store Cigars International. The shipping is only $5.00. Somebody on this site told me about it which I appreciate it very much. What kind of hand tools do use to carve the neck? I know my first CBG isn't going to be as good as the ones I have seen on here. People on here are experts. I am going to try to make one. I love the idea of the shell casings. I thought about making one in honor of my husband who went to Vietnam. Paint the box the colors, green, yellow, and red---maybe----then use the shell casings as fret markings. I hadn't thought about what to carve for the tail and the head of the neck. I need to think about more. I am looking forward to making one. See you round neighbor. Are there any cigar stores in Waycross to buy cheap good cigar boxes? Thanks
