In an Era of Twerking, This Square Dancers' Prayer is Shockingly Pure

I've been reading the entire Foxfire book series lately and it's proving to be good medicine for the soul.  These 12 volumes are chock-full of old timer's lore, simple living and great how-to's from America's Southern Appalachian region.

I find myself shocked back into a traditional mindset as I read.  In an age of twerking, outrage politics and ceaseless static on Facebook, it's good to remember how Americans lived their lives back in the day.

Foxfire 12 book has a great chapter on square dancing.  Consider the following prayer to God offered before an evening of fun dancing and socializing with the neighborhood:

Father in Heaven,

Some People wonder why we should open a square dance with a prayer.  But that doesn't surprise You, does it?  Perhaps, Lord, You even danced now and then Yourself...When You have made a new star or painted a perfect sunset... Thank You, Lord, for hands and feet and music.  Thank You for laughter and friends, for swirling skirts and scuffling feet.  Come dance with us, Lord.  Help us unwind.  Teach us to rejoice in everything that is good.  Help us love each one whose hand we touch tonight.  Come dance with us, Lord, among us and with us.

Amen
