Hi out there, I'm looking for a simple interface to plugin to the PC to practice & play along with backing tracks, can anyone recommend an entre model?

This is probably your best bet for cheap without latency.

I've never heard of having to buy drivers.

Sounds iffy to me, manufactures should include drivers with devices. (some old outdated stuff might not have new drivers compatible with New OS's.

I have a perfectly good Cannon scanner they dropped service for after Windows Xp. Pretty crappy to do imo. I can't use it anymore.

Its a "behringer" copy from E -bay, this is the interface where the drivers failed to work, the seller refunded, but I wonder if this will work with other drivers?

You should be able to go to the manufacturers website and find the proper driver for your interface (for free, might I add). What sort of interface did you end up picking?

So, I got the interface, downloaded audacity & now when I plugin the interface I get a whole list of sites to pay for the drivers, is this the way?

Dan, the iRig I have is specific to smart phones... it has a 4-conductor 1/8" plug...

I've gone as cheap as a 1/4" to 1/8 adapter.

This depends on computer though. If it's fast or you have a good sound card there shouldn't be latency issues. If it's slow you will have them.

And that depends on if you can play and listen to the echo or not.

USB cable  should be better but might still have latency. If so then you need an interface device, typically about $100+.

If you're looking to plug an electric in via the 1/4" jack, I recommend getting a "Realtone Cable" - came with the videogame Rocksmith, you can find them on ebay for anywhere up to ~$25 -  1/4" jack on one end, USB on the other. Plug-N-Play with Windows and Audacity.

Another option would be to get a low-cost USB mic, that would allow you to record acoustics. the GoMic by Samson can be had for less than $50, and IMO is about the best USB mic you can get for less than a hundo.

There is a recording down load called AUDACITY. I down loaded it to play my guitar. Being a computer dope I never did figure out how to use it. I do know you can do a ton of stuff with it. I knew someone that knew how to use it but he never had time to show me. You will have to buy a special cable on line to connect your' guitar. I guess that is called an interface?

That is the only thing I know about fellow "Dinosaur". :O)
