We are wondering how many CBG Club's are out there. So if you meet together say once a week or month to share builds, play CBGs in a jam, please reply to this post so we can access an average worldwide.

I have been to many of the Sacramento meetings and I always come away with new enthusiasm for building CBGs and a couple great ideas to steal.

... er, I mean use for inspiration.

Keep it alive folks. By posting, we are helping others out there that have or are currently thinking about this topic. I will add bits and pieces of things I feel help energize a club or spring board it into action. First off when we meet each time, especially the 1st meet is a little awkward when new people get together. I use whats called an ice breaker and that is me introducing myself with a short description like if I'm a builder/musician or both. How long I've been interested etc. Then I ask everyone to give a quick name and interest in the CBG world as well. If it stalls, ask a few more questions about maybe the CBG they brought or what ever. Having refreshments such as soda & coffee is a big plus. When we get comfortable as a group, I announce ground rules such as we have to wrap it up by 11AM. then I do one on ones or twos and get an idea what people would like in future club meetings. Usually those who stay long enough to show interest in club development help in keeping it going for others. People come and go, some return and that's alright. I find ways to get people hooked on their own club, I make them aware each time that it is their club and pull them into some kind of joint collaboration,a song or a trade. It doesn't matter what, last month we did a swamp witch guitar jam and had cool door prizes and swamp drinks. I remember peoples names and welcome them back. Groups look for an initiator, but once things get going I back off and enjoy what I came for and that's playing music and swapping with any takers. It's starts with two people and grows as fast as you cultivate it. I wont lie, it takes work but it is absolutely worth it.

Kirk, great idea and luck to you. It's not difficult with the right location. Somewhere everyone feels comfortable being there.

Thank you Will King for the reply. I posted this to get an answer to a question gnawing at me, just who the heck else does this. Glad to hear your club has been around 4 years and going.

Clever idea.  I'd like to focus on this in my area.

We have had the Sacramento (CA) Area Cigar Box Guitar Workshop now for over 4 years.  We meet 4 or 5 times a year at the Strum Shop in Roseville, CA.  Builders, players & just people interested in something different.
