The strings that I used are .022, .016 and .010 plain steel. I initially used a .009 but they break fairly easy. Also, I would not tune this above an open E tuning, I popped the bottom string two times trying to tune it to an open G. I tired wound strings but didn’t like the sound at all, so I went back to the plain steel strings (sounds more like a banjo this way anyway). Finally, I attempted to put my stamp on the inside of the drum head, and now I can see it upside down on the front side. So if you build one of the things don’t put anything on the back side of the head.

Comment by Mike Willmouth on December 31, 2018 at 4:50am: I think that I'll get rid of the .022 and try a .020 instead. The .022 is heavy duty and has sort of a deadened sound to it.
