I got a question about the head stock joint. I cut straight down into the neck and then cut an angle from the end to the first cut. Then glued on a piece of maple 1x4 cut on the end at a slight angle to match the neck. Cut and sanded it to shape and then I had to carve out the space for the tuning machines. That took off so much of the neck wood that I added a screw for strength. I counter sunk the screw and filled the hole over the screw with a piece of dowel rod (see the bottom right picture). I ordered 2 individual tuning machines in one order on-line and when they came they were not the same! You can see that in the picture as I just used them rather than going back to the vender.

I had asked about the joint. Thanks! And btw, I would not have noticed the tuning machines being different. I would not worry about it.
