Yup.  It's fun to use alternates.  Shot glasses work well for me.  I have some nice ceramic slides from Dave Lynas, but my Dunlop heavy brass slide is my go to and I do not have to worry about breaking it.

It's not perfect, but it did in a pinch when my glass slide shattered on a tile floor.
