I think we have the makings of a redneck banjo army! I will provide the straw hats, but you need to provide your own dungarees and George Formby CDs...
  • Terry

    Hi Ben!
Look forward to playing the Tin Guitar!
Will send details of that Ammo Box Guitar shortly.
Nice meeting you back at the CBG Fest.
Play it cool my friend, and I like the Youtube vids!
  • Brent Shull

yeah you can play it we made a pick that was about 9 and half inches wide lol, talk about some bass, no in all honesty we had to cover the hole so people wouldnt throw crap in it. but we did play around with it!! the whole thing is about 22 ft tall

hey bro i hope things are going ok fer ya. just wanted ta stop by and ask What is a corker? new term fer me as i am still learning ya see. but i,m sure it means something good cause you usually have good comments fer me.one other thing i would like fer you to tell me that you found out something positive about yer nightmare that happened. i believe that folks that take things are not justly punished. so if i was a judge in a court system, fer the theives i would have a hardwood cutting table and a hatchet right beside my bench and make folks in the courtroom watch as i cut theives fingers off. sounds mean but i would only take one finger per thief so they wouldnt want to come back to my courtroom. take care my brother i.ll talk wit ya later on.
  • Fergus Morris

Thanks for the wiring advice. I was looking at some schematics that were telling me to use different pots to the ones I had already bought, and I wondered if it really mattered that much.
  • HENRY LOWMAN

Thank you for the nice comment, mate! You make me feel honored by your praise! I had this idea, and some photographs just waiting for an idea to come into fruition. You know what that full moon does to people...LOL :-)
  • smojo

Hey Ben, you been taking bromide or something? You used to be Randy Rooster :)
  • smojo

Hi Ben, I'm fine thanks. Sold quite a few cbgs lately and a couple of baccy tin amps. I watched you vid on spinning a cone - great stuff, made it look dead easy and delivered in your natural entertaining style of humour. Enjoy your rest. Take care.
  • chris ekelman

Hey Roosterman, you have some nice set-ups going on.I did't see the link to your store on the page .Keep up the good work.
  • Dianne Woods

very nice CBGs and tins. Great job.
  • Fleur Shelton

    Cheers Roosterman, lovin' your work!!
  • David L.

    Hi Roosterman,
I saw the link to the vinyl stickers - could I ask you how well do they apply to a CBG and can you varnish over them so they last longer? Also when they come off do they peel off clean or leave a load of glue?
    Thanks,
    David
  • David L.

Thank you for the info Ben.
I have used waterslide paper in the past but thought the stickers could be a quicker option (but not if they still look like a sticker when applied) - I guess I'll stick to waterslide paper (unless I learn to airbrush).
    Regards,
    David

Thank you for your warm Holiday Greetings. Best of Health and Wealth in 2010. Enjoy.
  • philippe rivrain

I wish you a wonderful New Year and a more beautiful still "top" of the decade! (go hop altogether!)

  • Fergus Morris

Hi! I'm sure I've heard you say that you can cut piezos in two and they still work fine. Does it affect them at all, so that if i cut one really really small (trying to encase one in a wooden bridge), it wouldn't lose any quality? Thanks!
  • Kenyon Whaley

Thanks Roosterman , You got some cool stuff too , how bout an invite ?
  • JUJU

Thanks for the comment on my photo of my gear., it gave me a laugh. Believe me those things are attainable, it's a poor mans rig.
  • crissy b

Very cool cbg,s Imstarted making these a while back and just started selling a few on ebay making pickups aswell hand wound much like yourself I want to keep the depresion make em out of wot you got style Ive been toying with the idea of building a twin neck with a tree string and diddley after seeing the four string and diddley you built Ime ganna give it a go
  • crissy b

Hi thanks for getting back to me
Ive been happy to make a profit but my lady ,s not happy with wot they sell for cos I put a lot of love in these things so Ime ganna get a bit of stock together and do a few craft fairs this summer need to do a decent website and get some adds on here I think wheres this thing in october Ive not seen it yet?
  • Roosterman

2nd Uk cigar box fest - Birmingham. There is a discussion on the Brits Are Coming group. Last years was a blast, I highly recommend it!
Yep, pricing is always a problem, but selling cheap helps no-one. I refuse to sell on Ebay now because too many folk are giving them away - it cheapens everybodies product and if we dont have a decent profit, how can we keep building? Bear in mind what we do is a skill - some folk cant do it, so they buy from those who can. Same as everything.
Rant over - Here endeth the sermon LOL
    Take it easy bro
  • dogfinger steve

i will be careful... cbg fest sounds good, might have my first build done by then, lol :0)
  • dogfinger steve

hi there... how's it goin? had another look at yr cone vid. got my former made n gonna have a go tomorro so if you never hear from me again you know how it went :0) the guitar in yr noise vid sounds sweet sspecially on both pickups... sweet. i'll let you know how it goes.
  • dogfinger steve

tryin it on a concave former with sturdy foil tray, around 450-500 revs wearing a seasonally coloured hazmat suit and matching motocross body armour :0). do you know if a date has been set for the cbg fest in october, would like to be going i think, if i've still got all me limbs by then... will let you know how many i lose :0)

  • Mark Stowe

I wanted to say thanks for your comments on my Voodoo Child video, I really appreciate it. Thanks, Mark
  • David Fultz

Hello Mate, Just stoppin by to see what you've been up to since I've been away for awhile...I'm impressed with your ingenuity and craft/art.
  • smojo

Thanks Ben. If I could only keep one accessory/pedal it would be the Akai. Second would be the Line 6 Backtrack which plugs between guitar/amp or pdeal amp and just records everything you play and saves each piece as a WAV file. That's how I captured that piece of music/buffoonery. Save your pennies and get one.
  • dogfinger steve

cones are spun.... its good fun, need to do some more! cheers:0) finally got a couple of photos up 2. gonna try beer cans next but gotta drink beer first :0(
  • dogfinger steve

havent had chance to think about building something to try em in, had an 18 month old small person for 2 weeks. he's gone home today so it'll be a weekend in the shed methinks!!!
  • Doug Thorsvik

    Roosterman

Thanks for the feedback on my VIKster bass. The woodburning did take some time to do; maybe it's time to upgrade my $15 iron to something with more power! I am not nearly as prolific as your are; you have built some very cool instruments, licenses plates and wood slabs and all. I love to see the variety.

    Doug
  • Charlie Kimbler "dr. Jones"

  • colin mcgrath

i want to add a piezo to 1 of my cbg it has a floating bridge/saddle all metal. Is there any recommended way to attach it? I have never hooked up a piezo before.
  • colin mcgrath

well i searched through a bunch of piezo related posts. I might just try wrapping the piezo in thin cloth before taping it to bridge. We'll see how it turns out.
  • colin mcgrath

    thanks mate.
  • bairfoot cajun
