Those low tunings can sound really good - I made one for bemuzic and have restrung a couple of mine as a result
  • Shawn

Thank you Rodney for your comment. Definitely a busker's vacation spot. I had a blast. I probably played about 25 to 30 hours over the full week. Made about $20 per hour. Meet a lot of nice people too. Enjoy

    Hi:

I was looking for some 'coaching' advice on neck dimensions for a 4-stringer...I can imagine it gets old being asked the same 'how do I...?' questions by countless people...I do try to check plans first and search first, but a few things typically happen; I find many distracting things, I don't find what I'm looking for, I don't understand what I found, or I have 4x as many questions afterward!

Some things I realize, WTH, it doesn't MATTER, just do ANYthing.

I got some red oak back today from a coworker with a surface planer, and he told me why it was unstable and what resulted...

So now, whatever I wanted to ask you is subject to me revisiting your photos, remembering why I decided you were the expert to accost with beginner's questions, and determine if I'm now better off going back to an open forum post for multiple answers, because I have banana boards...I think the ready-to-run questions I had planned for you may be kicked back a few stages.

But thank you for the reply and willingness to help...

    Murray

    Cool, thanks. Great build!

Hay Rodney thanks just thought I would show how I do my braceing on my six string guitars. I put a clear on the outside of the boxes you so kindly set me. It will protect the signature. Working on the two at the sametime makes it slow going but very easy as do all cuts and assembly times two. Thanks once more Rodney
  • Laurie Lee Campbell

pic 44/100 :-) LOL ......really sweet and clean guits, Rodney! I think anyone would be hard pressed to name a fav.....the lil amps are totally cool......wondering what kind of sound you achieved with the black and gold reso? your pics prove there is alot more to one than meets the eye (insides)

Sometimes it's hard letting go of our creations. Take good pictures is all we can do.
  • Chris Ballard

THanks Rodney, I have been bracing them. I will try the other rrecommendations. Such as a gap between the neck and box top. Also the bridge distance.

  • Steve Becker

Thank you, Rodney. Yea, it's a little tough actually letting one go. Getting the extra cash to buy  supplies to make more guitars helps though. Hopefully this is the first of many!

  • Jason Johnson

Hey Rodney, was wondering if you have ever run a ground wire from magnetic pickup to those bridges you make with the steel rod...

  • Jason Johnson

    Thanks Rodney thats exactly what I was asking. Gonna pick up some sheet metal and bend up a tailpiece. Just been debating on whether I should use aluminum or brass for the tail....because I was to run the ground to the tailpiece to ground the strings as Im using a maple/bone floating bridge with a p 90 pup. Any thoughts you have on that would be appreciated (;

  • Jason Johnson

one more quick question......do you solder the wire to the tail or just wrap it around the screw that attaches it??

  • Jason Johnson

That helps alot Rodney, thanks for the photo!

  • Flippin 9's (Scot C.)

    Man!!! I love your work.....

  • thikwater

Thanks for the kind words Rodney, Trev

  • Rand Moore

    Hi Rodney.

A few guys in the CBN discussion group "CBG in CALIFORNIA" are planning a get together (nothing formal) on maybe "some Saturday in August" to talk shop, to look at a eachother's builds, to play and listen, etc. We're thinking like meeting at some park or similar public location in Sacramento. Since you live fairly close and are an accomplished builder, I thought it would be great to have you there. You can check the thread at the link above. Let us know if you are interested.

    Sincerely,

    -Rand.
