I can usually get G-D-G, A-E-A, F-C-F or D-A-D out of them w/ issue. I usually settle with whatever tuning by the tone- some just sound a lot better. Tons of room to experiment though!

So, after much research I realized now that there are a number of tunings for the same set of strings. I switched to the 4,3,2 strings ( .035, .026, .017). Any suggestions as to the different tunings?

wind the top 2 in one direction, and the bottom small string in the opposite so it stays on the neck, that works for me!

The best way is to keep rotating the bottle so the depth of the cut groove is about the same all the way round. It will then break very evenly.

I made one this past weekend and it worked well, took longer than 10 minutes but could have been a thicker bottle maybe. Got about just past 1/2 way thru it and it broke off pretty clean.  Excellent idea! Got mine at Menards for about $3.

I live in Australia but I guess any big hardware store would have them.I also made a bone slide. The important fact there is to do much of the shaping (while it is soft) before you put it on an ants nest and out in the hot sun to clean up the residual meat,fat etc.

Great idea Noosavilleblues....thank you....PS - can you get those blades(wire) at Lowe's or HomeDumpo?  I want to try it that way.  I have used a Dremel with good success, but takes a LONG time.
