Greasy's Easy Chords

Since i started playing these cbg's i've been wishing i had a chord book. A recent attemp to teach myself music theory gave me the idea to try to share anything i learn to help myself memorize what i've learned, and give ppl a sort of Chord Book. this will be a work in progress, so please be patient!

If you have a 4 string guitar tuned to G, thats a banjo. there are thousands of banjo chord books.

Im a banjo player and have built all my music knowledge off of banjo and open tunings. I know very minimal music theory, but can get a tune or rhythm out of just about any stringed instrument ive come across.

I'm sorry brad, i'm very new to theory. i've had to pleasure of a professional composser play one of my four strings. He figured out how to play house of the rising sun simply by plucking an A then modifing the chords to fit. He said much of the time with such an instrument, you'll have to use major chords in place of the one's you'd normally use.

I will look into what can be done, at best, it could be as simle as leaving out the root or some other note.

I have a 3 string fretless. Is there a tuning where I can play major, minor and blues- 7th chords with a slide, all in one tuning?

I know I can play all the majors in open G.I think in Minor chords I should be playing the root, minor third and perfect fifth. If I want to play G7 or D7 what 3 notes should be played to make it sound the most bluesey? I think it should be a tritone of the root,4th and 7th notes? Is there one tuning where with a slide I can play one or a combination of strings to have the most choices and play major, minor and 7th chords. Also where can I find words and chords for good blues, folk and roots songs suitable for the CBG?
