What thicknesses do you go for and what would you recommend the best size to build is?

I've been making my own boxes - I got frustrated trying to get decent size and quality cigar boxes. My local model shop supplies various wood in different sizes. They are accurately planed so not much additional work needed. They have basswood, spruce and walnut - and have just started stocking mahogany. I haven't seen the mahogany yet. But the others are good.

Hi Phil, just wondering what you're using for building your own boxes. I've been pondering having a go at this myself this past week.

Hi David many thanks for that it's much appreciated.
I've just ordered some cow hide for a leather sharpening strop block for honing my chisels and plane blades, and also a honing compound, and a granite tile for a flat surface to hone on.
Just a few more odds and ends and I will be ready to go.
I even have an appointment with my surgeon on Friday next re my hand, so things may really be on the move.
I have spent the last couple of days making a jig to make my own boxes up. I have got the sections glued up for the first one for tomorrow.Its all exciting stuff. Thanks again.

Hi yes please, I would be really grateful, as I want to be in involved in the cbg movement, although at the moment through an operation on my spine I have lost most of the feeling in my right hand, after 50'years of guitar playing. I am hopeful of getting it sorted out, but in the meantime I am slowly setting up to start building myself.
I really think that this is something that will bring people together.
I have been a blues nut since the 60s.

It's not the easiest thing to negotiate. It's the reason I haven't put my marker on yet.
