I would like to thank both John E Curley & David L for the info on amps & circuit diagrams.
Cheers guys.
If all goes well hoping to launch CBG-UK Radio next weekend, watch out for announcements! (-:
er...50th Dr Who anniversary! i watched the first unannounced episode back in 1963 one saturday teatime, so many missed it they showed episodes one and two back to back the following week! Themed CBG's would be good (-:
Where can I get components in the uk to make an amp + a circuit diagram
Anyone making a DR Who themed Guitar for the 60th Who anniversary?
I saw a great Tardis tin lunchbox for sale that would make a fantastic canjo.
The Cigar Box Shindig promo machine is in action - we need more acts please!

Jabes, are you proposing to run your amp off batteries or a mains adapter?
The reason I ask is that if you're going with batteries then bear in mind how power consumption could affect battery life. The LM386-based circuits that a lot of us use seem to be pretty good on power consumption. You can get hours of use out of a simple standard 9v battery. In comparison, I tried a mini-amp kit which was rated at 9W and that ran batteries flat much quicker. If your circuit really is consuming 12W then its going to suck juice even quicker.
People worry far too much about the power figures when they're thinking about the sound level they're going to get out of an amp. Firstly, sound perception tends to follow a logarithmic scale so more power doesn't give you proportionately more volume (and less power doesn't mean you lose as mucg as you might think). Secondly, the efficiency with which the speaker converts the amp's power into sound is a big factor. So even a tiny little LM386 can sound pretty neat through a really good speaker - not gig level obviously but surprisingly good as a practice amp when you get it right.
