@ Bri and Sleepy John would this be ok for Cross Harp ???
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hohner-Cross-Harp-MS-Harmonica/dp/B003SPT97...
@ Sleepy John and Bri,
Well I`ve re-tuned both my Guitars one is in "G" and The other in "A"
and I`ve bought a Barclay in "C" and a Hohner Silver Star in "D"
Regarding the Cross Harp what would you recommend???
Thanks Guys......
@Soulcatcher
I would go for a C harp as your first, they are far more easily found.
I found playing cross harp very difficult, having been playing "normal" style for many years as a folk musician. I found it very awkward to suck, when I used to blow to get the same note. If you're starting from scratch, it probably is less of a problem.
Playing cross harp is a must for a bluesy sound though.
look forward to seeing and hearing Chickenbone John at Upton this weekend
Sorry, 2nd position is cross harp - sucking yes but the trouble with buying a harp in a flat key is you may hardly ever use it. I certainly don't apart from my B flat. To learn I would suggest an A as that gives you E or preferably a C (plays songs in G) as C harps are easier to play for some reason. Don't buy a really cheap one as the reeds are likely to break. Spend about £20 on a Hohner to get started and if it works out look at Lee Oskars or something - happy harping
@ Bri, not sure I understand "2nd position or straight"
Got a feeling that`s something to do with sucking and blowing...LoL
If ive got my head round it right .....
A sharp is also B flat......and D sharp is E flat......
is that about right ???
also what about a diatonic Harmonica ?
and last but not least whats the best Harp to go for, well to have a blast
and learn on !!!
If you are anywhere in the midlands area this coming weekend, why not head over to Upton upon Severn Blues Festival? All day Saturday open mic from noon, so just roll up and play, plus evening gig with ChickenboneBlues. The whole festival is free (apart from camping), and there are some great artists. If you like slide guitar, there's plenty of it... Michael Messer and Gwyn Ashton to name but two. The whole town is full of live music..it promises to be a great weekend.
Hey Soulcatcher...I used something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/pressed-steel-guitar-tailpiece-projects-r...
for a similar transformation, using the middle 4 spaces or you could use a bass endpiece .the tail blocks are pretty strong..
