Hi All
I am contemplating having a go at building a licence plate guitar and I question about which plate gives the better reso results, the choice is betwen the vintage plates made of metal or the plates that are newer and made of some sort of alloy,
cheers for any advice
bb
Hi David,
No I am using it only as a headphone amp, Looking inside
the two ics are a TLO64 (jfet quad opamp) (acting I am presuming as a buffer/preamp) running into a LM386 chip (used as the amplifier). From what I have read on the www the LM386 don't work well as a preamp which is why I haven't bothered trying it.
As a headphone amp I have found the normal sound and overdrive work well for magnetic and piezo pickups.
If you specifically want a preamp for a piezo if you get one of the ebay preamps for putting into a guitar - search both "Preamp" and "EQ" in the musical instrument section and cheap ones start around £5ish and for £8/9 you can find them with the added bonus of a tuner. If you fit it to a box instead of a guitar you get a preamp for all your guitars instead of fitted into just one. (All you need extra is a 1/4 inch jack socket. The piezo rod included in the kit gets cut in half and the wire with the 2.5mm jack is soldered to the 1/4 incg jack and the jack end goes into the preamp. The preamp already has the wiring sorted for the out put jack socket giving you a preamp (plugging in a jack into the output acts as the on/off control).
David
Are you using this as a preamp for piezo pickups?
Hi,
On ebay there is a superb headphone amp being sold by a UK seller.
£4.99 including choice of over the head type headphone or earbuds. the little unit has on, overdrive volume and tone controls and piezo discs sound good through them. The come in a manly pink so you can either explore your feminine side or put a sticker on it.
