Once you get your head around paying £10 - £15 for a good box, you'll be spoilt for choice!

It is a bit of a faff making your own boxes, but eminently do-able. I've just made a few myself, mainly because I needed some large boxes to take a ukulele cone, and the other I made simple because I had some nice oak veneered ply lying around. I tend to scrounge all my timber, and recently a friend gave me a load of offcuts of decently veneered thin ply which will all go into box guitars.

Thats right Dave , theres no rules saying it has to be a Cigar Box at all , just use what you can get , the build i'm making right now ( Montecristo #2 ) is a box i have made myself based on a previous build i made using a Rare Cigar Box - tried to find another box the same but the only one i found was still full of Cigars and was $598 +shipping + import tax lol!! so i made one !
Sherb mentioned Using Fishing Tackle boxes fond on ebay , give them a try

Hi Guys, I had the same problem with my first CBG, in the end I did find a nice sized box that was really tatty, so I had to strip the paper cover off and go for just the bare wood. I'm new here and don't want to speak out of turn... but as I see it, a cigar box isn't absolutely necessary. I am just starting on number 2 and the box is going to be cut from an old tea chest (seems to be exactly the same wood). It's still in the spirit and also gives a bit more flexibility on the size of the soundbox. It's still going to be a six sided regular box just a bit bigger.

Hey Guy's
You found the mojor problem for us brits " Getting the Cigar Box/s" - i buy mine from Ebay and most are from the USA - theres loads on ebay it's just a case of looking through all the listings plus it works out cheaper in the long run buying them in lots , if you see multiple boxes from the same seller ask them before bidding if they will combine postage
other than that post a boxes wanted thread in the forum /homepage on the nation , i'm sure one of our American Brothers could accomadate your needs , also check out the Classifieds section on here see if anyone has or has been selling boxes and ask them !
hope this helps
juju.

Hi Alan, I'm having exact same problem. All the boxes I can find are way too small. I thought about using wooden fishing tackel boxes for sale on Ebay. How do we source some from the USA without huge costs?
