You know, someone should suggest a Seasick Steve edition Guitar Hero game, with a special Diddleybow/CBG controller.

Yeah, that was the one I saw, and looks good.
I was amazed that the mains side gave a better sound than the stepped down side.

Carl - it's a lot of trial and error as you may have realized. Handy hint: wire up some short pieces of cable with crocodile clips (see my video "Rock'n'roll re-cycling") and then you can fiddle around getting the best wiring set up before you solder it - saves a lot of sodding about!

Oh now that does sound cool.

Car boot on Sunday I think. Time to get picking up the pickup.

Carl - I just put an adaptor in a tin - magnetised the tin and held it next to a guitar string and twanged - it works. I would suggest you may need to ensure the strings are attached so as not to be magnetised themselves although I don't know what difference that would make. Also if you tap a magnetic pickup you do get a noise so it may pick up knocks etc as you play - but no harm in trying it out. Or I have some small tobacco tins -maybe you could make a small resonator out of something like that and wire that up as a pickup so you get a twangy electric effect.

I agree Alan, looks good. And I saw your vid, sounds great.
@MrRandomWritings, just seen your pickup/adaptor vid. Gives me Ideas that does. I wonder if in a steel box, you could use the magnetic properties of the steel case and the steel pickup surround to hold it totally hidden behind the skin and use the whole lid as the pickup points.

Alan - very impressive - you certainly used the character of that box to full potential - if my first one had looked half as good as that...

Alan - well done..that looks pretty good for a first time build. After making over 250 guitars I still end up having to creatively problem solve around individual challenges (ie bodge my way out of mistakes) as I build.

And yes, fretting is a fiddly job: it gets easier the more you do, but sometimes I still have problems getting frets to seat in the slots, damaging frets as I put them in etc. That's why I make so many fretless ones, and certainly didn't make any fretted guitars until I'd got the hang of things generally.

Hi all. At last I have finished my first build. Please check out my photos and I look forward to your comments, critique, questions etc. As with all 1st builds, loads and loads of mistakes. Seem to end up making one part and then working out how to fix the problem that I created!!! Talk about complicated!!! Still, it all turned out nice again!! For info, the box was purchased from good old ebay. Dont know much about wood types so Im guessing mahogony?? The wood for the neck was purchased from local timber merchant "goodwillies" in waterlooville hants. Thanks guys. I think the man said it was Padauk like the rail pick ups from juju. Two piezos sit under the lid behind the hand made bridge linking to the volume pot and jack as usual in parrallel. ISNT FITTING FRETS FIDDLEY!!!! 1st time have ever fitted a fret. none popped out so far! LOL. As soon as I get time I will post a video so that the world can hear the newborn cry!!! Thanks, Alan.

I hope it is working out well, Carl. A pickaxe handle is plenty long enough to do a full one piece thru-neck, right from the headstock to the tail anchor, in one continuous piece. Spade and shovel handles are also often made from Ask too.
