Can a box be too shallow?

Started by Sean Murphy. Last reply by Raymond Grimmitt Dec 21, 2021. 3 Replies

I picked up two boxes for my first couple of attempts at CBG's; finished the first and I'm getting ready to start the second. The box I got is nice and long, but it's a bit shallow - only 2" deep. I feel like it'll be an interesting build but I'm…Continue

Removing box labels

My first cigar box is on the way, and it's a paper-covered wood one. As cool as the label might be, I'd rather have a plain wood box, so I can customize it to my liking...is there a set method of removing these labels, without ruining the wood…Continue

I built a second CBG, finished Monday night - I can't every do anything simply so I went with a knockoff of a pic I saw on this site recently. It actually worked out really well! I didn't cut a sound hole but the resonance is so good I'm considering…Continue

Hey Everyone!!I am planning on building my first CBG in the near future, and am looking for some suggestions on the best way/easiest way that you have found to notch out the neck? I must admit that I possess very rudimentary "woodworking" skills,…Continue

A.D. - If you find the 'slide' is too big, you can use some of that double-side-sticky tape that appears to be about 1/8" thick foam.  Just tape it into the slide and if it is too loose, add another piece.  'Duck' is correct on using a socket....works great and you can find one sized to your finger.  I also have used wine bottle necks as they are quite a bit smaller than the beer bottle.

I use socket wrenches for my slides. Just find one that fits the knuckle. A 5/8" deep socket works fine for me.

Howdy Anthony,

Save yourself a whole lot of frustration....buy Mordacai's book on how to make the CBG at www.GittyMan.com

At only $14 it is a steal, and has all you need to know about making that CBG.

Tell you what....if after you get the book, if you don't think it is worth he $14, I'll personally reimburse you.

(And you won't a couple of weeks for it to arrive in the mail....it is emailed to you the same day.)

Hello.

I would like to use a tailpiece from a 4 string bass resonator guitar and as the string spacing is not correct for a 4 string CBG,I was wondering if you can add on a secondary tailpiece with the correct spacing to pass thru before it reaches the bridge, did any of you do this and did it kill the tone by doing this! Please advise. Thanks.
