Can a box be too shallow?

Started by Sean Murphy. Last reply by Raymond Grimmitt Dec 21, 2021. 3 Replies

I picked up two boxes for my first couple of attempts at CBG's; finished the first and I'm getting ready to start the second. The box I got is nice and long, but it's a bit shallow - only 2" deep. I feel like it'll be an interesting build but I'm…Continue

Removing box labels

My first cigar box is on the way, and it's a paper-covered wood one. As cool as the label might be, I'd rather have a plain wood box, so I can customize it to my liking...is there a set method of removing these labels, without ruining the wood…Continue

I built a second CBG, finished Monday night - I can't every do anything simply so I went with a knockoff of a pic I saw on this site recently. It actually worked out really well! I didn't cut a sound hole but the resonance is so good I'm considering…Continue

Best/"Easiest " Way to notch out CBG Neck......?????

Hey Everyone!!I am planning on building my first CBG in the near future, and am looking for some suggestions on the best way/easiest way that you have found to notch out the neck? I must admit that I possess very rudimentary "woodworking" skills,…Continue

Hey James - Here you go....I borrowed this out of mordacai's gittyman CBG making book:

LOWES
Kobalt 3-in-1 Multisaw (Item #247218) - $15 or Vaughan 8 ½” Extra-Fine Blade
Pull Saw (Item #88300) - $20.

HARBOR FREIGHT
Japanese Flush Cut Saw (Item #39273) - $10

If you have not yet gotten his book, it has a complete parts list and where to get ALL of the items you need to make the CBG.  Can be gotten at www.GittyMan.com

Any one else out there using his book?

Hope that helps you,
kieta

my Fret slots TOO WIDE with my narrowest coping saw blade, my fret slots are TOO NARROW with my fine X-acto Miter saw.  Where is the MEDIUM?

Hi you guys...I've been "building" for about a year now...managed 3ukelels, 1 cookie tin uke. 2 three string slide, and three 4 string guitars.  Made a few mistakes but with each build there is improvement. These sites are INVALUABLE for information and ideas..all you guys are priceless..there just is not enough hours in the day anymore.  The next build is a tenor uke. I have also started to stalk the 'pawn' shops- (known as oppertunity stores here in aust)....everything becomes a target for a musical instrument now..the inlaws have told me to keep out of their sheds, and my mates lock their sheds up when I come around..(I try to make the instruments from as much "recycled' stuff as I can)..I use square guttering for nuts, plastic bread ties as fret markers- I use a hole punch for this, bolts as bridges, but wood I find friendlier sound, I take out the 'nail' part of pop rivets and use them as string anchors  and dare I say, about to try various sized fishing line for uke strings....and " I cant find no satisfaction",so I have to any everyone and keep building, cheers from Australia

Pawn shop will probably want you to buy the whole set. At most hardware, auto parts and "Big Box stores you can buy just one that fits and they usually aren't that expensive.
