Tenor Guitar (cbg)

We all fashion our cigar box guitars into the format of regular guitars, so why not do something new with your cbg. Make it a tenor cigar box guitar. This page is dedicated to the making and playing of tenor cigar box guitars.

Fret Spacing

Tossing around ideas for a Tenor build. One thing that has me a little puzzled in these early stages is fret spacing. Do Tenors have the same fret spacing as a regular guitar neck? I thought they did…Continue

I've been learning bluesy stuff on my mine (it's got a single coil pickup and sounds pretty sweet).  I'm doing the DGBE tuning and getting lots of help from a local guitar instructor who has been able to 'downshift' from 6 string by keeping the top 4 of standard tuning.

Hi Folks, Just completed my 2nd Tenor, both tuned GDAE, I play traditional Scots and Irish music and some Bluegrass. I have been playing some of what I call heavy trad through my micro cube with plenty of gain, sounds good to me.

What style of music do you play on ypur tenor ?.

I love playing my Tenor guitat.  I play that and a Tenor Uke just about every day.  I use the Roy Smeck Bar chord method.  I want to learn to build  my own tenor cigar box tenor.

Cool Ben.

I am building an electric tenor cbg. I am using my old Stella as a guide.

Just in case anyone's interested, my newest Tenor guitar (Tuned CGDA) can be heard on the Christmas Album. It's the strummed one. The slide is a 6-string lapsteel.

True, but there are ranges that they fall into. Thanks for the answer. More tension on the Chicago Tenor.

Hey Ben, there is no hard and fast rule that dictates what scale length makes a particular instrument. My baritone ukes have roughly a 19.5" scale. The sound board area is almost twice as large and I used the top 4 strings from a nylon classical guitar set. Here is a photo with one of my bari ukes next to the El Cubano Grande.

Colin, I got my La Belles from my local "House of Musical Traditions" but I'm pretty sure they're available online. Happy hunting!
