Hi everyone, i try to put a  single coil, with only a mono jack on my new CGB's, i'm used to piezzo, and i got a massive ground problem!!!!!

I tried to put it on a string, the bridge, every metal part i could find, and still got a noisy buzz !!

Would it be simple, with a volume button, and the ground put on it back ??

If someone could help me i would be so glad !!!

(sorry for my english i'm french!!!  but i try my best!!)

Here is my laminated neck

Great looking neck!  How many pieces of wood is that?  This is a great way to make a 6 string neck wide enough.  This is a great revelation for me1

I have done several laminated necks, they are super strong and they look awesome to boot

PapaSimone,
I see Nathan has already showed you what he does. This is called laminating. Many commercially produced guitars use laminated (eg., two or more strips of wood glued together) necks. I am building my necks out of two or more pieces of plywood (which themselves are nothing more than pieces of wood glued together cross-grained for strength and stability) glued together, then planed and shaped. They seem to work pretty well, which is good because straight hardwood is expensive where I live. As Nathan has shown you, laminating wood is really pretty easy; you need lots of clamps, some good wood / carpenter's glue, some space for the piece to sit undisturbed, and about 24 hours.

Any suggestions on where to learn to make necks out of three pieces of wood?

Why to stick with the "traditional" designs... Well, why? ;-)

Hi All...

I came across this design by JP Swenson which does allow you to install a tuna can resonator in a narrow cigar box with a neck thru design. What he does is to cut the can down in two places to let the neck run through, and then he cuts the center out of the neck thru part of the neck to let the sound ring out a bit better. Here's the photo:

Ingenious!  Proves me wrong.

Hi James,

Your are pretty free to pick any size cigar box you want that can contain all that you want to put inside. You'll likely have to build several before you get a feel for the kind of instrument you like to build with a cone resonator, or what ever other kind of metal resonator you decide to use. Another factor is whether you are planning to use a bolt-on neck, or a neck-thru (or neck-almost-thru) design. Bolt-on necks allow you to use thinner boxes (less depth). Neck-thrus have to have the neck diverted down into the bottom of the box where it still takes up room, and would require a deeper box. Maybe a diagram would show this idea better.

Other than this, it's pretty much mow much space does your box need to have to contain the metal resonator you plan to use. I suggest using some drawing program and put together a few sketches of alternate designs so you can fool around on "e-paper" before doing it in wood. That way you can verify that your boxe is deep enough to conatin all you want to put into it.

Good luck with your build.

-Rand.
