Hi Bryon,

There's a group of Cigar Box Nation members who live in and around the greater Sacramento area and who are planning an informal get together one day late in August (2012) to talk shop, compare builds and play/listen to music. If you are interested, check out the following link:

http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/cbgincalifornia

The exact date, time and location has yet to be worked out, but we wanted to let people know so they can have enough time to plan to come. So, stayed tuned at the link above.

Sincerely,
-Rand.

Hi Byron,

The tone pot on the Aroma de Cuba simpy filters out, or more accurately "grounds out" certain frequencies when turned down to zero. As the tone knob is turned clockwise, the grounding effect is eliminated for a full response and the piezo transmits everything to the amplifier.

However, with a piezo the changes in tone aren't as obvious as when the vol/tone setup is used with a magnetic pickup.

Byron,
Hey! great amp!
I'm glad to hear from you and it's great that you finally got it working! I was just thinking about you and your project and was going to write you to find out how it was going.
Your amp looks great but here's another tip: if you twist the wires together from each component (gain pot, volume pot, jack) it will be a bit neater and it makes troubleshooting a lot easier cuz you don't have to follow each wire through the mess of spagetti! I like to use color coded wire and twist them together with my cordless drill.
Best,
Chester

Bryon, No trouble man, I'm glad to help. The brown, green, green resistor is the 1.5M ohm resistor. You can use another resistor in the same ballpark, and actually for a CBG amp it would be better to use something bigger. I usually use the next standard value which is 2.2M (red, red, green). You could probably use anything from 1M up to 4.7M.

I'd rather not make one for you as I'm pretty sure you can do this. Go step by step and ask any questions from me or open it up to the rest of the forum if I don't get back to you quickly enough...there are a lot of people here who know more about electronics than me. And don't get discouraged if it doesn't work the first time...I've been making shit for years and I had an amp last week that wouldn't work at all and I still haven't got around to figuring it out!

No sweat, that's what we're all here for, right? I don't know if you have any electronics experience, but if you need any help, let me know.

Bryon, Here's the circuit that it's based on:

It's so simple you really don't even need a pcb I just built it on perfboard. But here's a site that has a toner transer pcb and a parts list:

Let me know if you need any help...best,
Chester

Welcome aboard, Bryon! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBU, CBB, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).

Up in the Free Resources menu at the top, you will see a number of plans for building and playing cigar box guitars/ukuleles/banjos/dulcimers/violins. I encourage you to download any of the plans, take a look at them, and ask questions from there. Also our site is VERY searchable. I bet you your questions have already been asked, so take a few moments and look around.

Join our Chat sometime (see the bar at the bottom of your browser page). Keep in mind that tho the chat window says there are X number of people online, not all may have the chat window up.

Most of all, have fun!

-Wes
