This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Hi everyone. My name is Gary and I'm in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. I have wanted to build a cigar box ukulele or guitar for some time. I've got 2 boxes right now, so I hope to learn from you folks and build one soon.

G'day,
My name is Paul Thorley, I am a Blues musician and CBG maker from Noosa, Australia. I have been making CBG's for about 5 years now and have watched the 3 string Revolution take off here in a big way. The raw, rich essence of the sound that these instruments create reaches into our soul like no other guitar anybody has ever heard and people just feel drawn to them . This site is really cool and I can see over the last 5 years how much momentum this ol' 3 string Revolution is gathering, thanks largely to the hard work and influence of Shane Speal and his mates. Hang on to yer hat!

My name is Todd, I am a Drummer and a Bass player. I am a proffessional Woodworker and Stave Drum maker. I've been getting a lot of repair jobs on my friend's guitars, and would like to start building some of my own. I thought that a CBG would be a good foot in the door, but I am really starting to get hooked on this recycled homegrown instrument idea. My first build is going to be a 'La Flor Dominicana' acoustic short scale Bass with an active preamp and Piezo saddle pickup. This site is full of great ideas and helpful tips. Thanks in advance for any help you may provide me in the near future, and if you need, I would be glad to help answer any wood questions you may have of me. Please take a look at my web stie for examples of what it is that I do.

Hi all my name's Dave I'm from Nottingham in the UK. Came across this site while looking for info on Seasick Steve's playing and the whole 3 string thing, I hadn't heard of CBG's before seeing a video on YouTube and was just blown away! So I'm trying to track down boxes but they seem to be a bit thin on the ground over here in the UK, I think I might end up making a box from scratch. I know it wouldn't be a proper CBG but it would fit in well with the make do and mend ethos of CBG building! Anyway when I get things going I'll throw up some photo's and maybe a video or 2.
Cheers
Dave.

Hi my name's Greg Russell from Spartanburg, South Carolina. I discovered CBG's about 2 years ago, or so, and have recently "resparked" my interest in them. Just bought my first cigar box and will be starting to build my first CBG hopefully this week. I'll post pics as soon as I get em.

Brent, in addition to what Shane said, you should check out Foxfire 3. it's a great book that comes from the Appalachian mountains.

Michael Hutchins from Australia here. Did anybody else's jaw drop when they first saw & heard a cbg being played or is it just me?.... I asolutely love playing guitar, fixing & building them even more, Playing & listening to slide most of all.
I stumbled across CBGs on youtube, made one, & BAM!! All the things I like most just fell into place. I love the sound, the character & the way the instrument dominates your playing. The things just drip with blues heritage.
I aquired materials to build 100 cbgs. Boxes dating civil war to current, I'll post some photos soon.

My name is Michael, born and raised in Oklahoma and grew up listening to my grandpa playing guitar, mandolin and french harp. Somehow I ended up in Northern California about two blocks from the ocean and just about smack dab on the San Andreas fault. My wife bought me a Daddy Mojo 4 string CBG about a few years ago and I have succeeded in frightening the neighbors and worrying all the cats and dogs in the neighborhood. I have been slowly gathering wooden boxes and chucks of wood and old guitar parts and finally have a little place to work on stuff. I look forward to learning and listening to all of you great guys and gals. Thanks for putting up this site!
