I was cleaning up my shop ... cutting up bits too big for my wood stove... Evidently ran past the pusher on my angle gilhooley... hit the thumb pretty square...  never touched the nail...

The mess I'm (trying) to work in.

Pushing the envelope until it explodes

I was making a 3 string for a VERY small lady, so I tried to make a very low profile neck for her tiny hands. All was going well until I tested the rigidity and discovered I had made a pretty good…Continue

Thanks guys.
I managed to miss most of the snafus encountered here.
Until you guys JINXED me.
Thanks a lot! I rrreeeaaallyyy appreciate it.

Indian Tabac Uke with laminated neck. Ash/walnut/ash. Pretty.

1- One of my straight edges for the neck strips wasn't so straight. Now the neck is 3/16ths" thinner than planned.
2-Too much sanding left me with a bad fit on the headstock scarf. Fixed, but I know it's there.
3-Cut the holes in the box for the neck too low. And this is the only Tabac box I have ever seen! waaaah! I figured out a fix ... but now, instead of building, I'm waiting on the glue to dry.
4-It took 2 tries just to post this ... I hit the wrong button somewhere and everything dissappeared the first try.

I'm gonna go hide under the bed.

Matt

-on a good note, I did get the "one of those builds" uke neck done and ready for fretting.

I miscut my last length of maple. Im not running out to get more then have to wait a few days to allow it to acclumate. Sooooo....25" scale it is!

If you look closely at the pic of the speaker on my cigar box amp, you will see an extra set of four holes around the speaker opening. Instead of mounting the speaker the way I had originally planned, I turned it 90 degrees. When I went to check the clearance for the false front for the switch and jacks, you guessed it, it wouldn't fit. I tell people the extra holes are just really small bass ports.

Ok, so you subconsiously were going for short scale, without knowing you started building a lefty and I like the look of tail tuners

Ok ya'll, I'm gonna have to remove this group.

Ever since I started it, I've been cursed. Today I cut a fretboard too short. The other day, I drew in holes on the wrong end of the lid. What next? Put the tuners on the tail?!?

I don't need to clamp it, It's just two little holes I'll hold it..... Yea, right!

Dianne, good move - it was a project to hack one out and you'll be soooo happy with a real one from Gitty!

Warren, thanks for the information on the fret filing jig. I was just before building me one, after I saw your posting, I ordered me one from Gitty.
