I'm suprized at the lack of activity in here. I thought this would be one of the busiest groups. So anyway, my latest build is from wood saved from the trash trucks grip. Over 100 yr old black…Continue

I'm trying to get instruments ready for a "Green Gifts Fair" on the 20th right now, so I'm building a bunch of instruments out of salvaged wood. I've got upwards of 50 canjo/guitar necks in various stages of completion. All of them made from dumpstered wood. Old futons, shelves, etc. I've got plenty of wood.... it's just too bad that I wasn't quite as prepared with my supply of fret wire because I'm running low!

Decided to join since most of my instruments are made of junk and recyclables. Right now i'm working on a diddley bow made from an old broom handle, an altoids can I found in the street and a cigar box given to me by my brother. Found the broken neck from a uke that still had the tuners on it, but they werent strong enough, guess there made for nylon strings only. I'll have to find something else for the tuners, of course I have a box full of various eyebolts and what have you.

Dani, those Castrol barrels sound perfect for a bass.

... and that d-bow you just described, you do know it's worth at least 50 quid, right?

I go hunting every time I want to be creative, my diddley bo is made from a fence, a Guinness bottle, a tuna tin and some picture hooks, needs some tweaking but works a treat. I've also got 2 20 litre Castrol barrels any ideas on what to do with them would be very appreciated

been laid off and freaking out. stir crazy. so i built a diddley bow for nothing. throw out wooden roller paint pole for the neck/body, M60 shell casings at either end, a honda motorcycle coil for the bridge, and a pickup and tuner out of the junk mans garbage bin. everything held on with 14 gauge house wire out of the neighbors recycle bin. made a slide out of another M60 casing, sawn down

, but it will only fit my pinky finger.

Scored a junk 1930 regal guitar for the neck, tuners, tail piece and bridge, $10 at a salvage auntique place, already have a box for it and I used the tail piece on a guitar I an restoring

I did get about 15 alum blocks out of the dumpster yesterday, have a allen head on one end with a block that ajust to something on the inside, they are going to make great tuners after a little garage machining

So, the maple neck on my Komuz build is from a piece of a table I found at roadside. The rest of it was there too, but I could not get it in the car. By the time I got back with the truck, the trash truck had beat me to it:( So sad, there was enough to make about20-30 necks, solid maple.

This group is my kind of place! I'm building my fist guitar out of wood from dressers I got off the side of the road. 1/8 inch 3 ply and maple. Can't beat the price!
