I'm suprized at the lack of activity in here. I thought this would be one of the busiest groups. So anyway, my latest build is from wood saved from the trash trucks grip. Over 100 yr old black…Continue

I seriously thought that this would be a more active group. After all there is so much "treasure" thrown out everyday! Anyway I recently found boxes of old brass plumbing fixtures in a storage unit I…Continue

I find some of the best stuff while out walking the dogs. Here are pics from this morning. 10 heart shaped ring drawer pulls. Nice and strong. Antique looking hammered finish. You'll be seeing these…Continue

Ain't no end to it! A friend passed his outboard Harley radio on to me... it will eventually become an amp, battery or wall plug works, super cool. But hey, I dig coffee and "Overdrive"... absolutely! -Glenn

Especially with "Overdrive" label on it...

A friend of mine used an old AT computer power supply to power his chip amp build.

I've been hitting up our companies I.T. department. Used computer power supplies yield a pile of wire and a few fan covers, well worth the time to tear apart!\

This thread has really got me thinking!!! I've bee playing around with old headphones to make a few pick up for a stomp box, washtub bass & now getting into building some tin can (condenser style) microphones & shock mounts.  I work in a hospital too & often there's lot's of old retired equipment in our basement (I call it the dungeon). I'll have to look more carefully next time & meanwhile make better friends with our Biomedical Engineers!!!

Elwood is correct, this will not work. The tapping noise was just me completing a circuit when I tapped(positive going to ground). I taped the leads face down to a board and tapped the board with no results.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained or lost. Thought they may have worked differently than they did. Oh well, I still have some wire.

I cut the sticky pad away leaving the metal disc attached to the plastic snap connector. I then use a old guitar cord with one end cut off and attached the ground to the harness ground and signal to one of the leads. Turned on the amp and tapped the metal disc and the sound came through the amp along with a good bit of noise.

I'll play around with it some more to see if I can get the noise down and find out if it's worth doing. If nothing else, I got some free wire.

Was at the hospital visiting someone and they had him hooked up to a EKG with all those stick on wires. The nurse removed the wiring harness and tossed it in the trash.

I grabbed it and put in in my back pocket and brought it home. My wife asked WHY? I said, think about it, this is basically 6 mini piezo pickups/contact mics with a wiring harness and it's free.
