Hello All,

What a great site. I just love browsing this site. I have spent hours just reading all the comments on building and playing. My youngest son and I built a dulcimer in 2002 from a kit that I bought at Silver Dollar City. We had a great time together on this build. My son loved to play it and i get a big enjoyment playing also. I am going to try and get into building CBG's and will attempt to build my first CBG very soon.  Just looking for the right box to pop up. Thanks again for this great site.

Doug

How long is the instrument from nut to bridge? Once you know that you can use this to help you choose the strings for your chosen tuning:

John,

I'm been using the 1-2-3 strings and tuning an octave higher that you are.  This gives the strummer a much more dulcimer sound...

the best,

Hi folks,   I finished my first cigar box (dulcimer fretted) strummer.  What strings from a 6 string guitar set should I use?  I am currently tuned DAD using the D, B and small E from a guitar set.  The Ds are an octave apart.  It sounds good, but not quite right......  Hep me, Hep me!

Free Holiday dulcimer music! Renowned recording artist Bing Futch recorded a selection of Christmas and holiday tunes using his brand new Folkcraft chromatic dulcimer. Here is a link to the download page.

Someone asked about the fret placement for dulcimers, try googling The Tennessee Music Box Project or go to http://www.everythingdulcimer.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1... . Somewhere in this discussion is a pdf for fret positions for 24, 26 and 28 inch string lengths. The TMB is basically a dulcimer with straight sides, much like the European version, but has the same fret patterns of the traditional mountain dulcimer. It tends to be more "twangy" than is currently in fashion, but sounds very much like the traditional MD and I suspect, CBMD's.

Hey everyone, I've just posted a great Cigar Box Mountain Dulcimer (CBMD) how-to article by Diane over at www.cbgitty.com. Click here to be taken directly to the article. Diane does a great job of covering the key things you'll need to know about how to translate your CBG-building experience into CBMD-building experience!

The thread from Randy S. Bretz's discussion 'Lets fill this up with any and all dulcimer builds here in the nation' in the group Dulciworld has been deleted, anyone know what's going on ?
