Bloodwood will make a fine fretboard. It's hard like purpleheart. Wear a respirator and maybe long sleeves if you're making fine dust though!
It's a great color, which doesn't fade as fast as padauk.

I use bloodwood exclusively -- unless I go with maple. It's getting more expensive as it gets more popular. Lately I've been buying LMI 5 or 6 string bass fingerboards and cutting them into 4 uke fretboards. As an unfinished fretboard it gets dark like rosewood as it gets exposed to sunlight. When used as a binding and finished with oil, it's a brilliant red.
