My daughter's music teacher has invited me to run a workshop with him next year to help the second grade class build and play some instruments. So that gives me the summer to figure out a plan and…Continue

workshop for kids today.  15 kid's built twoand 3 string cbg's.  all turned outmgreat.  thabnk to the fine folks at cbn who donated to the cause.  darned school would not let me take kids pics, so hopefully their parents will get some to me to post here.  also got airtime on radio  today.  pushed the nation and cbg's for soldiers.

I'm new here, but just wanted to say I have a couple of grandkids and their friends around.  The 2-year old likes the electric diddley bow and sings "diddley bow" all the time.  My first guitar I made was a learning experience and when I complete my next build I will give the old one to a kid named Jo-Jo who is six.

Oh, one more. Make the sound holes big enough so if she drops something into it, you can shake it out again, because kids drop things into them all the time.

Also, she keeps losing her pick, so either let it be easily playable without a pick, or maybe tie the pick to a string connected to the box. Just thought of that. I might give it a try.

I built a one-string cigar box guitar for my daughter. She's three. Can't really play it, but I just whipped it together for fun. There are a lot of great suggestions. It makes me want to build a new one for her.

I don't really know if this is a great suggestion but I made hers with a cardboard cigar box. It still produces a nice tone, but isn't as prone to el-kabongs as a wooden one.

Thanks for the suggestion Diane, the name has been shortened!

Wow,Turk! I thought of that one too, but couldn't rustle up a clip Well done. Also, if you shorten the name of the group, the word Kids will show up on the homepage group recent activity lineup. The "instruments" is sucking up so much character count.

My own building has been rather curtailed at the moment due to the arrival of my daughter, getting the odd snatched moment to work on the electric uke but progress is pretty slow!
