Rod Piezo wiring

okay, so i looked around for a while, and haven't really found an answer, so i'll ask it here before experimenting.

 

i just got 2 of the piezo rods from cbgitty.  they are not the solderless kind.  

Rod Piezo Acoustic Instrument Pickup

i cut the plug off, and inside the cord is one wire.  this is the first time i've used these instead of the piezo disc.  how do i solder it to my 1/4" jack?  every other piezo i've used has a black and red wire.

i like the sound of these things a lot.  now i just want to get hum-less installation down!

The exterior braided cover is the other wire (I believe it's the ground, or "black" wire), solder to that.

You're welcome!  The braided wire acts as shielding to reduce or eliminate interference buzz.  Be sure to solder your jack directly to it.  Let us know how it sounds!

thanks to everyone for the help.  i really love these things, now that i can get them wired up in a snap. 

and the cut off jack ends to these are perfect for using with any eq that accepts 1/16" input.  i've used every one i've snipped off in amps!
