No you're spot on.. Pop it in a small cookie tin and ground the tin itself for shielding. If u wanna just buy one, I gotta L R Baggs outboard footpedal size one that's great

It's not got any pedal switches that you can stomp.. But it's that kinda size and setup. Like a Di box with an eq on it like on the side of acoustic guitars. It can be powered from the desk like a mic or you can put a 9v battery in it

If you wanna make one you can get a typical 9v acoustic guitar preamp with eq panel etc on eBay for about $15..
Go to your electronics store (or prolly also eBay, I just haven't looked..) and get a DI box kit..
Put the two together and you gotta real capable little box that you can plug into a guitar amp or direct into a desk or recording rig.. I was saying small tin only so it'd be fully shielded, it could equally be in a cigar box if that's your thing

Wondering now, that Behringer EQ pedal is not a pre-amp!  Would it function as one?  or....Maybe I should take my smallest cigar box, get an imported guitar eq/preamp for a guitar, mount plug inside, and....hmmmm, sounds pretty cool!
