Hi Ellwood.

Thanks for the link to the "How to Build a Cigar Box Fiddle Plans" on the www.carolinafiddle.com website. I am also studying how to make a CBF, and the plans on CBN have just about driven me blind trying to read them. So, I have re-written them using Notepad and re-drew the diagrams. I'll post it under this group in a separate discussion so as not to fill this discussion wall.

Does anyone know a CB Fiddle maker who doesn't charge half a grand or more for their worK? I'm looking for an inexpensive, primative CB fiddle, 3 or 4 strings, with friction pegs.

I found that my fiddle sounded ever so much better after I tuned it to the proper octave....Duh....

I was looking for the Cigar Box Violin plans - I've not seen them at this time- any point of references from someone- I'd like to pass this along to a violinist

there are seven different sizes of violins and the smaller ones are for children  and the one they need is determined by arm length. and Justin is right it is in how you play it.  Often times they are cheap because that is what people can afford. and some of them are very cheap  tone is not an issue.

Thanks Ellwood,
it's all done by smoke and mirrors. The fiddle is quite a small item - about half size violin- and made of cheap wood, so the sound is more rebec than fiddle. However, I added a disc piezo pick up to the instrument and with a bit of reverb, flanger and a lot of gain, I achieved a sound that I really liked.
