Jon Pruett built my cigar box guitar found in several of my recent videos.

I have a new build in mind and need some advice before I start. I love my peaveys. I have a t-60 guitar

and a T-40 bass (as seen in the above videos). I want to pay homage to them in a tiny CBG sized solid body based on the shape of the the T-60 that I cut myself. I will then send it to Jon and he will basically work his similar magic. My question is where can I get a chunk of ash suited for this? Or is there another type I should use? Thanks!

Ash? You could always get about 4 broken Louisville sluggers from your local nine, slice 'em in half, glue together the halves, then cut out what you need from that...

Well since this appears to be a "hey dummy you're not supposed to use ash" comment. Then I'm forced to say hey guess what?! the Peavey T-60, my ideal guitar, is made from Ash.

You could actually say something helpful or at least not sarcastic.

I think he was serious. Lousiville Sluggers are made from white ash.

Well I'll feel stupid if he was! LOL! Well oily?

Np,

No, I was not actually being sarcastic. Iffen I was ever so moved to outright call you a ravin' eejot for your desire to, so to speak, cover your ash, you would definitely know it.

As it happens, Ryan correctly sussed my noble intent. Reason being, I initially thought of saying, "Hey, dummy, go find a Strat body in the local discard bin, they're made of a...lder, occasionally poplar, and only very occasionally of ash, at least since the late 50's, when they were actually made of white ash, and the 2000's, with the Swamp Ash Relic and Vintage Series." I did my research, in other words. And I'd never, ever say to you, "Hey, ya ravin' eejot! See if ya can find some other doofus who don't know what they has, and get 'em ta give ya their '57 Strat body for next ta nuthin' on eBay!"

Nope, wouldn't do that. So I sez to myself, " Ash? Hey, wait, they still make Louisville Sluggers outta white ash...what good is a broken 'Sluggo to a ballplayer? They nearly always break at the handle, leaving a good 12-16 inches of 2 3/4 -2 5/8" barrel lumber...But a guitar player / builder, iffen he could find 3 or 4 such - maybe see what his local semi-pro or pro team does with the busted ones, or can find a coupla relics in his uncle Louie's hall closet, no sentimental value, nunt-uh - and split 'em down the middle, laminates 'em together, shapes the result with whatever tools he can scrounge, just might be able to get enough of a white ash brick to make a CBG-sized plank from it all. I know that John Fogarty had the neck of his Centerfield pseudo-Tele made from an actual Louisville Slugger cut in half, but I never heard of anyone making the guitar body from one or more...that'd be kinda kewl and unique. hmmm." typetypetypetype...

Is what I was thinkin'. But you only got the tail end of the mental conversation. Just think of it like talkin' with yer wife or girlfriend...

Mutters cantankerously into his beard: "Fricken' out-reproduced by us Crow Magnets, them neanders...cain't trust 'em with more'n grunts an' hand gestures, anyways...That brow ridge might come in kinda handy when it rains, though...hmmm."

Thanks Wes. I'm not going to just a lumberyard though right. Sorry I'm just new to this. I was even considering picking up a free wreck of a piano and salvaging a piece. I have no idea what pianos are typically made from. I want aged wood right? Not pressure treated? My brother-in-law gave me a scrap of treated pine big enough to use. I am assuming that will not work. If I'm going to pour my heart and soul into a piece of wood I want it to hold up.

I will check for the upscale lumber in my area first. And thanks again!

ebay or bellforest products

Thanks!

Bellforest is my supplier of choice.  Great service.

Thank you.

I went with woodworkers source. http://www.woodworkerssource.com/index.php

I got a 1 13/16" piece of ash just the size I needed for $25. It's is beautiful. I am pulling my band saw out from under the back of my house and bringing it to my dad's garage hopefully today.
