John,

Don't bother, unless you really want to, trying to taper the neck. Make your life easy, and leave it the same width. I use a 1.5" width all the way down, so 1 11/16" is only a tad wider. Make sure your outer strings aren't too close to the fretboard edges, so you don't fret out when playing, sliding or bending. As far as 3/4 size dreadnought, just get a coupla standard cigar boxes, and go at it! 22" scale is good for kids, and adults like it, too - that's about max scale for a CB uke, and on the shorty side for a CBG, but it'll work. A standard 9" x 7" x 2" box is something anyone, kid or adult, can easily get their arms around. Think it, but don't over think it. It's a stick in a box, and the kids will love it. So will you. Start simple first, then get more complicated with each build.
