Placing strings with loop ends on them

Hi all, just wondering, if I connect the strings on my cbm (instead of one of those gold plates on a fancy lookin one) can I stagger where they end, my thinking is I can end them anywhere because the sound is only between nut and bridge, so I can extend the strings past there as much as I please, please let me know what you think

The length past the bridge won't effect anything. Just be careful of the angle. If the string is too flat, then it will buzz.
