YA, fretting is not my favorite part of a build either. But, The neck/fret board are 70% of the work to build a CBG so if I didn't do it I wouldn't feel like I built the thing.

I have a "geek" light also! It clips to the brim of my ball cap. I also use it when I'm out "walking" at night in my wheelchair.
It's a great safety device and very handy for filing nuts... Does the wing nut in the (center bottom) put the squeeze on the fretboard?

I just snug it enough to hold the fret board while I saw the fret grooves. Doesn't take much.
