I started trying to build noisy a cricket by just winging it from the schematic and got a working one first shot on a prototyping board but it was to big for the box I had picked out to use. So I started trying to follow along and build it the way Beavis Audio shows on a smaller Radio Shack pcb but after four attempts I still couldn't get it right for some reason and went to a different RSpcb. Finally success!

 I was off to the races mounting everything. After mounting the pots (all the same way) and testing it I noticed the gain knob swung the opposite direction from the tone and volume, made a few attempts at rewiring but never could get it switched to swing the same and since I had a hell of a time drilling the holes for the locating pin on the pot I just left it alone.

 Next came the speaker cover. My first try came out ok but I didn't like the hole pattern so I started over. As simple as it is I think I spent as much time debating with myself about the layout and spacing of the holes as I did in the trying to figure out how to wire the noisy cricket.

 All in all it was my first real electronics project and I've learned quite a bit researching how the magic smoke in it is suppose to work so I enjoyed the challenge. I would however be interested in any other tone/volume circuits anyone could point me to as the tone works great on this but the volume really doesn't do much.

In addition to getting a 9v wall adapter so I can figure out how to wire the plug, I still need to add some feet and wipe a bit of finish on some rough edges I sanded. So I've got a few "finishing touches" but that doesn't slow me down from playing with it.
