I'm just wondering if tasmanian oak good for a mandolin thru neck, as it's a hard wood,

The Phrygian Kid swears by it for his builds. Use it in good health.
It's certainly strong enough for it, but it doesn't hold frets as nicely as some of the decking/flooring stuff you'll find at the outdoor section of that big place with a green roof... (Merbau, red gum, spotty gum etc...)

It will do it tho, and it's 'dressed-all-round' ie it's cleaned up nice, more likely to be square and flat that the decking, this may be important to you if you don't wanna workout with the plane. Make sure you pick thru it for the flamey piece eh, it's usually there ;)
Ok, thanks, some of the sizes I looked at are a bit thinish,like for flooring is that a problem or do I have to laminate two pieces, any sizes you'd recommend?
