Hi.

I am very new to this whole thing, My nephew told me about these cigar box guitars he had heard about and showed me clips on Youtube. I was instantly hooked on the sound especially the slide so thought I'd have a go at a build and try to learn how to play. The few cigar boxes I could find seemed quite small in comparison to what seems to be overseas (I'm in Australia) so I just bought an old box from a garage sale and cut it down to what I thought would be a suitable size. For the neck I have used Tasmanian oak. Just awaiting my tuners in the mail now to complete.

another aussie !!  welcome greetings from Brisbane...

still building my first but have plans for a ukulele next and several amps on the go...

What, you have a old International that hasn't completely rusted away? Welcome aboard and nice job on your git.

Was pretty lucky with the Inter. Very little rust. Just an engine issue that we are sorting out. Eventually we will replace a couple of dented guards with dent rust free ones we already have and give her a fresh coat of paint.

welcome, I like the look you have going, I'll keep my eyes posted for more pics to come.

Thanks everyone. I wanted to go with a rustic look so when I knocked the old box apart to cut it down I even re used the old nails with surface rust on the heads, Cheated with the picture it is just printed on matt photo paper.

Was told I still need holes in face to let sound out even though it has the underbridge pickup. Is this correct? Or if the holes are needed could I get away with a couple on the end of the box instead of face?

holes on the side are fine. may not be quite as loud but there are many pic here with different hole positions... the holes will only affect the unplugged sound.

looks good, can't wait to see/hear the final result
