How do you glue pre-fretted 1/4" board it to the neck without smashing the frets with clamps?

use another fret wood or some thing similar(need to cover the full length of the fret board).

by doing those you put even pressure also spread your clamps out evenly.

Always use a clamping caul/packer, no matter you are clamping. On a neck you need a full length piece of scrap wood to even out the clamping pressure as much as possible and keep things straight. When  glueing fretboards to necks I often clamp them onto the cast iron bed of my bandsaw to ensure they glue up dead straight. I've also got a scrap piece of rigid aluminium box section which I've used for clamping up necks.

In future I'd recommend glueing on the slotted fretboard to the neck before fretting.  This has the advantage that if necessary, you can true up the neck after gluing to ensure it's straight before installing the frets.
