I really started working on it.

I cut the box to fit the neck on both ends.
Will then decide on how I do the headstock, make it, then will glue the freboard.

I want to keep it simple, but do what it needs to play well and sound good.

More to come

That would be a happy medium. Like the comparison of the Casino guitar ,ES-330 and the ES-339 guitar. The Casino is completely hollow and the ES-339 has a block from the neck to the bridge and they offer different tones. The ES-330 has a block at the neck and a separate block just under the bridge and is right between the other 2 tone wise, like the best of both worlds.

You can't take away too much material from the neck because it would weaken the neck, but just having contact between the neck/through piece and top at the bridge, side/end pieces and at the neck joint will allow the top to vibrate good and still give sustain at the bridge.

It can be confusing and I hope your getting what I'm saying. Acoustics in a square box CBG with a neck piece running through the box will only offer so much acoustic properties and volume. so this little trick will maximize the acoustics available with good sustain too.

Absolutely...

My DeArmond Starfire is built like the ES-339, has no feedback even when played loud, and have a nice tone, from Blues to Rock & Roll.

But I was looking at a cigar box guitar like a different beast, and saw many different opinions about how to build one...

Well... It's just like the different opinions about how the wood of a guitar body affects (or not...) the sound of the guitar.

Ah the great tonewood debate, don't get me started. Hahaha

The DeArmond Starfire is a great guitar. I have a 60's MIJ ES-330 copy that I just rebuilt a year or 2 ago. with mini-buckers.

Tried to do a acoustic build CBG a while back with a Cedar box and Red Oak neck. It was a challenge, but finally got it. Still need to put the piezo and pickup in it.http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/class101/forum/topics/cedar-box...

Learned a few lessons with this one. Maybe it can help out on future builds.

Yep, the DeArmond is from the first years of production. I always liked the sound of the old DeArmond pickups.

The way you routed the top on your acoustic ebg is how I figured it after your suggestions. Except the the top will bev2 separate pieces.

Glad it helped. Cedar is great for a top and back for deep tone, but not good fro the sides and end when stress comes into play. Next build will have something stronger for the sides and ends.

I used some plywood for the seem braces on the top and bottom. That was a mistake, should've used something stronger.

Today, I installed the strings holder and 2 screws in the back to fix the neck on the box.

The strings holder is a heavy duty picture hanger that I modified.

Next step will be to install the tuners and then I'll be able to place the strings for a first test and make adjustments.

The fun is coming...

Looking good. Like the picture hanger idea.

Me too. I wasn't looking for that but liked the look.

3 strings would need a simpler one.

You can get better looking like this http://picturehangers.ooks.com/viewitems/shield-pro-hangers/shield-...|1101|1005

The 3 and 4 nail ones would be perfect.

Right...

I had the 4 nails in mind but found another one less costly in a different store. And I wanted to use the fixation holes or that last one for the neck.

On another build, the 4 nails would look better though.
I used a different type of screw to fix it on the neck so that I can use the neck without the body.

The screw on the top is a wood screw to fix the neck on the box, and there is another one at the other end of the box.
