Amp help

I haven't completed an amp yet but this is the model I'm going on. Thrift store portable tape recorder. Cracked it open and removed the deck and mothers. Stripped it to the board. Oddly it has an aux in. It all works in this condition before mounting. I prefer to use as much found materials as possible as matter of consumer responsibility and staying true to the tramp art.

The question would be this. Has anyone gone this route and found units that have a separate amp bard apart from the control board? The control board is just not needed. Any brands work better than others? Ie Hitachi, GE, RCA. These things are a dime a dozen at the thrift store.
