I have an old tambourine I'm using to build a 3 or 4 stringer out of. I would like to install a pickup on it but am afraid to cut a hole in the top. Is this possible? Any
suggestions? I don't want to use a piezo but may have to.

This escalated quickly!

PS Hitler, that's not how Earl did it.

That's GREAT! Can you do it with Obama?

I`d go with a rod piezo bridge like this one..just notch out the one bottom feet and run the rod wire along one of the outer strings to strap jack.    Mojobone Works - Rod Bridge

I meant instead of the rod wire coming out the bottom of one of the feet like I normally do, putting a notch or small hole near the bottom so the rod wire comes out the side of a foot. I`ve used this same rod banjo bridge on my own tunable hand drum banjo and it works great. I`m always experimenting making rod bridges for new applications on stringed instruments. Already made a few fiddle rod bridges, which worked out great, just radius the saddle. I do get a lot of orders for custom rod bridges for stringed instruments that usually wouldn`t be amplified in this way. But that's the fun of making the bridges...lol

Here`s an example of a new amplified bridge design I came up with. This one uses 2 cut piezo disc`s, and it worked out great...even better then I thought it would.....http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/floating-saddle-bridge?context=...

This is nice!

As long as you have some crystal left on the  brass and you can solder leads to it , it`ll work. My bone carved saddle bridges I use one 41mm piezo disc and I cut it to fit in the carved out chamber underneath the bridge. There I just cut the disc oblong, I use a large pair sissors to cut the disc down.

This was my first design at making my own bridges many years ago, still get orders for them once and a while a bit harder to make then just a rod and a saddle bridge.   They sound very good for using an embedded disc in hot glue.       http://www.cigarboxnation.com/video/lapsteel-mojobonework-1
